I'd like to mute (no sound but still get a notifications) every app on my iPhone, iMessenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, games, news, etc etc etc, however I have one app I'd like to hear. I use an app called Tipster which I have set to play an air raid siren when someone I follow posts. Basically I want/need an option to mute specific programs in OBS. In my case I sometimes stream world of warcraft for my guildies whom have been placed on the bench for this specific evening. I want them to be able to hear more or less everything; Spotify, in-game sound, desktop sound w/e. Windows 10 offers excellent audio control for all your audio devices as well as for the various apps that you’ve installed. You can, for example, set a diffe. I usually have youtube or netflix on in the backround while im playing a game and whenever i clip something it just puts youtube or netflix or whatever i have on in the backrounds noise in the clip aswell. It would be a really convinient feature if we were able to have an option tomute certain applications audio from the clip Collect and organize feedback with Nolt. There is one specific game (Top Drives) where the in app option to turn off music and sound effects doesn't turn off all sounds. I am looking for a way to mute that specific app while still allowing other apps in the background to play sounds.
Sometimes, you might have one or a few applications that will make noise on your computer for whatever reason on a regular basis or the cause of the sound is outside of your control (i.e. receiving instant messages, e-mail, etc). This can be particularly annoying if you are trying to concentrate on other things such as movies or general work.
Luckily, since Windows Vista, there has been the ability within Windows to change or mute the volume on a per application basis. All you need to do is:
- Right click on the volume icon down in the system tray next to the time,
- Left click on “Open Volume Mixer”.

You’ll then see a window similar to the above. As you can see, each application has its own volume slider which you can adjust as well as a mute button underneath. You’ll notice that I have muted the two instant message applications as well as the system sounds. Also, on the far left, you’ll see a master volume slider which will influence both the maximum and relative volumes for all applications which will save you the effort of adjusting each slider individually.
Of course, if you have more than one sound device (like speakers and a pair of USB headphones) you can control those by using a dropbown menu that will appear in the “Device” section on the left of the Volume Mixer window.
